Photographer Arito Suzuki from Ishimaki

Japanese photographer Arito Suzuki just came back from his 3 week humanitarian volunteer work in heavily affected city Ishimaki in Japan.  Many of you may remember Arito's talent as a photographer from the genuinely captured photography of Sayama Kyuryo a.k.a. Totoro Forest for the Totoro Forest Auction back in 2008.
Check out his photography of the honest reactions and lives of the people at the refugee camp.  No matter what we do to raise fund for Japan, it is impossible to truly understand what these people are going through.  Arito has shared his emotional experience through the lens with us.   This will give us something.  And hopefully we will keep our cause seeing these photos.

He is also selling his stunning photography as a fund raising pledge.  Don't be shy.

Join SketchCrawl to help Japan this Saturday!

On Saturday April 16, 2011 artists from all over the world are coming together for a drawing marathon to raise funds for Japan disaster relief!!! Our Japanese brothers and friends need our help.

What is a SketchCrawl?

SketchCrawl is a grassroots event started more than six years ago by Pixar story supervisor Enrico Casarosa. On given dates, four times a year, artists from all over the world form groups and go out in their city or town and draw for a whole day. At the end of the drawing marathon all sketches are shared on the SketchCrawl.com forums. SketchCrawl is about sharing a passion for capturing the details of our world around us with a pencil and paper, but it’s also about building a global community of Artists, a community with no borders.
We’ve put to use SketchCrawl in the past to raise funds for good causes. In 2007 SketchCrawl raised money for “Emergency” by an Italian NPO that offers healthcare to war and poverty victims around the world. Let’s come together again and help raise funds for Japan!
Just like a walkathon participants to the drawing marathon raise money by seeking the sponsorship of friends and colleagues. The funds donated will be added to the “Artists Help Japan Give2Asia!

Anyone can participate.  If you like to draw and want to join your local sketchcrawl group and help Japan, contact them!

Or simply donate here to support SketchCrawl!

One, ひとつ---HUGE SUCCESS!

One, ひとつ was a HUGE success.
All of 50 art work was sold and hundreds of people came to the show. This was where artists came to unite to help Japan. Our final number was $30,605, well over our goal. Considering we only had a few weeks to prepare, it is an amazing success!! Many thanks to all the volunteers and special thanks to Vaughn Ross and Sho Murase of Maverix Studios to lead this event and Seiji Horibuchi of New People to give us space at high end Superfrog Gallery.

It was one special moment where many many people, many nationalities, many races, artists or art lovers came together to pray for Japan.   Again, the money part may still be small for what they need over in Japan but the energy this event created symbolized what art can do to make a difference.

We will also make a full report on other events that happened this weekend!!
